Mission & Tenets

Mission

I believe being accountable to either yourself or to something greater than yourself helps people move forward and reach their finish lines. I have a personal mission to which I need to accountability, and I’m creating this site and a Youtube channel so I have accountability to anyone and everyone in the world who sees this. I also believe in the financial concept of accounting. I think a little goodness today can compound tomorrow and grow a little bit more, and more the next day ad infinitum. As I pursue my personal journey, I’ll engage others to pursue their journey as well and share stories of personal success, failures, and lessons learned so everyone can grow together; our accountability will compound.

Why Tenets?

One lesson I’ve learned in my career is when you’re undertaking something difficult and/or new, start by outlining tenets by which to operate. Tenets allow you to drill down to what is important to success and then you can hold them up as a lens to view all decisions you make from then onward. You may call these your ethos, your principles, your character, but they serve to align you to what is important. It helps to revisit your tenets regularly to remind you how to measure your actions, but they are also not set in stone. Tenets are the best directional markers you have when created, but new information and lessons learned may validate their

Health Tenets

  1. Health Is Not a Number - I will provide regular updates on my personal weight for data, transparency, and legacy purposes, but my health journey is focused on improving my personal capabilities and activities, not numbers.

  2. S.M.A.R.T. Goals - I’ll set S.M.A.R.T goals in for my health journey, share them, and then provide regular updates. Index on Attainable.

  3. Transparency and Honesty - I’ll track and share all food and activity choices, not just successes or setbacks.

  4. Remain Open and Adjust to New Information - I’m not an expert on health and this is a journey of learning. I’ll seek out feedback and open discussion with experts in the field to ensure I’m on a science-backed path to health.

  5. The Internet Is Cruel - Being public with this journey will invite well-intended criticism from both Fat-Shaming and Body-Positivity activists, as well as non-constructive trolling. Remember the Why.

Wealth Tenets

  1. Long Term Focus - I’ll never pursue or promote ‘Get Rich Quick’ schemes. Wealth is build over time with consistent, choices with appropriate risk-tolerance for an individual’s situation.

  2. Diversity in Asset Classes - I‘ll pursue an overall diversified plan with assets in multiple classes (i.e. Real Estate, Equities/Stocks, Bonds, Cash, CDs, etc.) over time.

  3. Focus on Passive Income - While some investments will be growth focused, passive income generating assets best align with my 10 year goals and I’ll index on Passive Income when appropriate.

  4. Security Over Optimization - I’m willing to forgo a degree of optimization in pursuit of financial security for my family. These are usually aligned, but not always and when there is a difference, I’ll usually index on security.

  5. I’m a Neophyte - I’m early in my financial education journey and will strive to never represent myself as an expert.
